One question that inevitably gets asked every time I do a book talk is whether SailGP and the America’s Cup can live in harmony going forward. This got asked by someone with skin in the game last Saturday night at the Royal Solent Yacht Club (wonderful club on the Isle of Wight) and my answer was an unequivocal ‘yes.’

My expanded point whilst on the spot was to draw the comparison that SailGP is one design fleet racing, whereas the Cup is a technology arms race where even the closest people to the game have no idea what will unfold when it comes to Match time. That, to my mind, is why the America’s Cup is the greatest event on the planet, but I fully accept that SailGP is a really nice package - if it can survive.
