Formula 1 has been a hard watch this year exacerbated by the war in the Middle East, but also at its own making. The new regulations that came into force this year, the biggest changes in decades, and the drivers are so unhappy that even Max Verstappen is threatening to leave at the end of the season. A once glorious formula that re-invented itself for the digital age by concentrating on personalities via ‘Drive to Survive’ is now seeing TV audiences dwindle and a shortened season in cars that are just plain weird and producing massive speed differentials. Ollie Bearman’s crash at 191mph in Suzuka was the catalyst for the drivers to spring into a media offensive, the likes of which we have never seen before. Good on them. The risks are simply too great now.
