“Fashion is instant language,” so said Miuccia Prada, a lady who knows her onions in the style stakes. I stood behind her at the launch of the latest Luna Rossa in Cagliari, and fashion was simply everywhere. The Italians just get it so right. Grey and red, beautifully tailored, even the sailing wear, and in the cool stakes they are head, shoulders and torso ahead of everyone else - and everyone knows it. Luna Rossa is just effortless chic, styled straight off the Milan catwalks and into the Cup. To be honest there’s no competition, sailing’s industry players are not at the races and season after season merely turn out unwearable, expensive, dross. No wonder the pro-sailors just go for jet black oilies - it’s the choice of the dull.
