The Royal Thames Yacht Club does an awful lot of things very, very well. Sometimes its hard to see beyond the Knightsbridge clubhouse but there is so much more and their on-water programme is a model by which every club in the world should aspire. It really is clockwork and the key, as always are the people they put in place.

First class race officers supported by outstanding, knowledgeable volunteers who do it for the love of it, for very little praise. They are heroes all. Back behind the scenes there’s a culture of excellence and an admirable no-nonsense approach laser-focussed on delivering for the people that truly matter - the sailors. It’s a machine and it’s whirring in Cowes at the moment as they celebrate their 250th anniversary with a regatta that is set to explode on the Solent this weekend.
