When you speak to the team bosses of an America’s Cup campaign after they’ve been eliminated or defeated, inevitably they speak about decisions that they made two or three years before, coming back to haunt them. Usually those reasons are quite specific and I use American Magic as a prime example with their recumbent cyclor system that plainly didn’t work for the intended purposes - they couldn’t generate enough power to do four tacks in quick succession - but from an aero perspective that lowered deck not only looked cool but performed well. When they modify that boat for stored power, it could well be the weapon that wins in Naples.
