Operational Efficiency
It's what separates the winners from the losers...
Ahead of the last America’s Cup in Barcelona, there was a rather, shall we say ‘raucous’ crowd that gathered at RORC in Cowes, to hear one of my first ever book talks. Friends in the main, the boys and girls had supped copiously at the supreme Lallows-countered bar top (that is one of the true wonders of the world) and then patiently listened to my recant of that first race around the Isle of Wight in 1851.
Then came the Q&A and it was relentless. “Who’s going to do well in the Cup in Barcelona, and why?” Now that’s a loaded question and the easy answer to a room full of Brits is to appeal to their national pride and say ‘INEOS Britannia.’ The fact that I did in fact answer in that way, led to a far more detailed explanation of the ‘why.’ And it’s pretty simple. It’s all in the operational efficiency of the teams - something we studied hard in the lead-up.
