Can you feel it? The Cup is rumbling...
Regular readers will know the quote that I love, delivered by an old boss, who said: “Sleeping giants have a habit of waking up” and I don’t know about you, but in the last few weeks, I’ve felt the rumblings of a momentum shift in our sport. The America’s Cup is back, and like King Kong hanging off the Empire State Building, it’s roaring across the sport. Plugged in as I am to approximately a thousand WhatsApp Groups (the scourge of modern life), all the talk is about the Cup and very little else. There’s a regatta in Rio being held in the shade of Sugerloaf Mountain this weekend, the analogy couldn’t be more perfect. For Sugarloaf read the America’s Cup. It dwarves everything in our sport.
