I can remember vividly sitting in a classroom in 1986, daydreaming as per usual (it must have been a Physics lesson) bending a paper clip into the form of a mini coffee grinder and mentally transporting myself to Fremantle, Western Australia.

Others dreamt of being astronauts or engineers, I was dreaming of Gage Roads and the ‘Doctor.’ Those 12 Metres crashing off the waves, rumours of 3M ‘riblets’ and outrageous winged keels just caught something in a 15 year old’s imagination that never really left if truth be told. If you’re reading this, you’re probably the same. That America’s Cup was everything and it will always remain the reference point so long as my generation, and the ones ahead, are alive.
