Rio may well be known for its chaotic roads, jumbled housing, and the starkest of differences between wealth and poverty, and as a blueprint for sailing under the lee and wind-bend of the Sugarloaf mountain, the SailGP racing had every facet of the city it alighted on this weekend. The crowded, ridiculously compact startline was where fortunes were won and lost. You either caught a break or you didn’t and from there you were gambling with Mother Nature who was more fickle than fashion. A horror-show for many who will be pleased to be at the front of the plane on the way home, you have to beg the format question once again especially in the light or are we just all comfortable with the lottery?
