It had been mooted to start building in the Spring of 2024 and completed by the summer of 2025 but the RYA has pinpointed that rising building costs have scuppered their plans for a world-leading ‘Performance and Innovation Centre’ that was slated to “bring together sailors, coaches, and support staff in one location designed to promote collaboration and innovation.” Instead the RYA has given the green-light to ‘refurbish’ the existing facilities and renew their commitment to the area with a spokesperson offering: ‘a long-term commitment to Weymouth and Portland, one of the best places in the world to sail and the spiritual home of the British Sailing Team.’
