Eyeing the 600
The peerless RORC's season is already in full swing...
The busiest yacht club in the world by a country mile, the Royal Ocean Racing Club is quite rightly snatching all the sailing cognoscenti’s headlines after a terrific Transatlantic Race followed by the Nelson’s Cup which looked utterly spectacular. Now it’s all about eyeing the Caribbean 600 that is about as glamorous as it gets on the world scene for the professionals and it’s very interesting optics in light of what we saw at the supposed pinnacle in Auckland last weekend. I could easily make an argument that we’ve all been hoodwinked, and that really the pinnacle of sailing has been staring us in the face yet we’ve chosen to ignore it. Blame the media. Blame the Chief Hype Officer (whatever happened to him?). Blame Russell. It was we who were at fault all along. Fool’s gold?
