The achingly fashionable side of Cowes, to the east, is where all the action is this weekend as the offshore powerboats come to town bringing their unique mix of high octane adrenaline, a whiff of aftershave, a glint of hair gel, and a smattering of short skirts and skyscraper Jimmy Choo’s.
It’s a heady mix as the UKOPRA (UK Offshore Powerboat Racing Association) season gets underway with a very, very fast lap of the Isle of Wight. Conditions look okay but there will be eyes on the wind. The UK is currently basking in early Spring sunshine and incredible temperatures that will cool just ever so slightly for the weekend with easterly breezes that should bring relatively flat water and winds in the 10-19 knot category.
