Whenever Dan Bernasconi talks, the Cup world listens. He’s like the Ross Brawn or Adrian Newey of the America’s Cup, and he actually is so confident that he reveals heaps in little snippets that other designers, less confident ones, simply don’t. The big pointer in his most recent interview (below) with the AC recon team last week when the team rolled out but didn’t sail was interesting: “The detail in the fairings around the jib and main traveller - you’re always wondering if you can do better there…” And when we saw Taihoro on Friday, he was spot on. ETNZ have done it again. They’ve innovated particularly in the mainsheet ‘truck’ and sent a bolt across the Cup design world that this is all in the details.
